A delegation of the World Council of the Cedars Revolution (WCCR) including its President Joe Beaini, John Hajar, and Tom Harb visited Washington last Monday and met with officials at the State Department and the National Security Council.
A well informed source told NY Morning that the delegation also met with officials with the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Senate and shared its concerns about the dangers of Iranian domination in Lebanon, via Hezbollah which is influencing government in the country.
The delegation also discussed the threat of Syrian refugees in Lebanon as a potential source for anti Hezbollah groups to form in Lebanon and cause a violence in response to Hezbollah’s aggressive role in Syria. Additionally, the delegation said it backs American aid to Lebanon, especially with regards the Lebanese Army. The WCCR called for ensuring support to the Army so that it fulfills its tasks. The delegation also demanded that Resolution 1701 be executed and for UNIFIL to deploy on the border between Lebanon and Syria in order to ensure no weapons are crossing the border into Lebanon. They also discussed the major threat that Hezbollah poses in Lebanon due to the arms they are receiving .
US officials responded by assuring that sanctions would soon be implemented against Hezbollah and would include a list of supporters of Hezbollah. They also expressed their awareness of Hezbollah’s increased strength and threat because due to arms flow through the border with Syria. They also indicated their concern for Hezbollah’s increase in power in the case of a conflict with Israel in Lebanon. They also hoped the March 14 Coalition to unite again against Hezbollah and present a unified front along with civil society against Hizbollah dominace
